Note: Tiananmen Square, which on occasion has been the site of massive demonstrations, is bordered by the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tiananmen) built in the early 15th century, The Great Hall of the People where the National People's Congress meets, the national museums of China, and the Mao Zedong mausoleum.
